Melbourne great Garry Lyon has raised concerns over Joe Daniher's goal-kicking after the Lions star's wayward shots on goal against Richmond.
Daniher's accuracy in front of goal has been an Achilles heel throughout his career and his kicking woes once again resurfaced after he missed a pair of straight-forward set shots against the Tigers amid the Lions' second-quarter onslaught.
The left-footers missed shots prompted Lyon to question whether the ex-Bomber would let the Lions down in a big final down the road.
"I've got grave concerns about Joe Daniher going forward," he told Fox Footy.
"I'm sorry about this, I've got grave concerns because you can't trust him in front of goal.
"He's winning it and fair enough his having shots, but I've got big concerns. I know he's done it in big games (for Essendon), but seeing him tonight and the way he's missing his goals says to me he has not worked it out.
"In September, when it's on the line can you trust him?"
Lyon's point was echoed by St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt and Lions icon Jonathan Brown.
"He's capable of the 'yips'. He needs to work out a technique mentally as much as anything," Brown told Fox Footy.
"You wonder, Joe hasn't been involved in the really big games where you feel the pressure when you're standing 40m out straight in front when the stakes are at their absolute highest," Riewoldt added.
