Karachi: All-rounder Corey Anderson quits New Zealand Cricket after accepting a deal to become part of the upcoming USA’s Major League Cricket venture.
The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the franchise-led T20 competition, which is expected to start in 2022.
Anderson, who holds the record for the second-fastest hundred in ODIs, after playing MLC will likely go on to represent the USA in international cricket.
He confirmed the development to a renowned foreign publication and said: “It hasn’t been an easy decision. I asked myself several questions. What do I want to do now or what do I want to achieve in the next two years, five years, 10 years? As you get older you think about life a little bit more broadly as well.”
He represented New Zealand 93 times across all formats, scoring 2277 runs with two hundred and 10 half-centuries. He also picked up 90 wickets and last appeared in 2018 against Pakistan in a T20I encounter in Dubai.
Anderson joins Pakistan’s Sami Aslam, South Africa’s Rusty Theron and Dane Piedt to quit their national teams and play for the USA.
