
Lahore: Pakistan wrestlers’ hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics were crushed after all three wrestlers lost their respective matches in the first round of Olympic qualifiers in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
In the 57kg category, Muhammad Bilal was defeated by a Kyrgyz wrestler 6-4. In the 97kg category, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Inam Butt was beaten by Uzbek wrestler 8-0. In the 125kg category, Haroon Abid lost to a Mongolian wrestler.
Pakistani wrestlers will now compete in the Asian Wrestling Championship.
Remember, Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8. It were postponed last year due to prevailing COVID-19.
