Cain Velasquez retires from UFC, signs with WWE for match with Brock Lesnar

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is trading the octagon for a wrestling ring.

Velasquez signed a contract with WWE during a press conference at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday.

The first wrestler Velasquez will face is WWE Champion Brock Lesnar on Halloween at the Crown Jewel event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

, Velasquez signed a multi-year contract while notifying UFC of his retirement from mixed martial arts.

The 6-foot-1 and a half, 248-pound Velasquez made his first WWE appearance on Oct. 4, confronting and attacking Lesnar after he won the WWE Championship on an episode of Friday Night Smackdown.

“I am so excited to be joining the WWE,” Velasquez said, as reported by

. “Brock Lesnar crossed the wrong familia, and for that, he needs to pay.

“I know Brock is big. He’s the biggest. But he ain’t the baddest. I’ve beat him once before in the UFC, and I’m ready to do it again.”

Lesnar and Velasquez do have a history. Velasquez defeated Lesnar to become UFC Heavyweight Champion at UFC 121 on Oct. 23, 2010.

Velasquez walks away from MMA with a 14-3 record. He last fought in UFC this past February, losing to Francis Ngannou via knockout.

A lifelong fan of professional wrestling, Velasquez made his in-ring debut this past August for Mexico’s AAA promotion at its Triplemania XXVII event.
