Mickey Arthur’s support made me a better Test batsman: Babar Azam

Lahore: Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team in all three formats, thinks that it is important to give support to youngsters which will subsequently help them improve further.

The 26-year-old talked about his own struggle which he faced early on in Test cricket but after one year his performances improved just because of former head coach Mickey Arthur’s support.

“Our plan is to continue with a combination of youngsters and experience. Important is to back young players. My example is in front of everyone as I was struggling in Test cricket early in my career but team management supported me throughout,” Babar said while talking at a presser ahead of the national team’s departure to New Zealand.

“Credit goes to Mickey as he supported me constantly and according to him, the more support I got & the more I played, the better I will become and now after one year, improvement is visible,” he added.

Babar believes that it is important to score when the team needs the most but he is also aiming to score a century in New Zealand.

“My aim has always been the same is to score big when going on tours like Australia England and New Zealand. I am prepared for it too and will try to post a century there (New Zealand),” he maintained.

The number five ranked Test batsman revealed that the final decision on the field would be of his own, however, he will consult with the former captains Azhar Ali and Sarfaraz Ahmed.

“I have learnt from Azhar and Sarfaraz and would definitely consult if required but of course I will make the final decision,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Babar is confident that the side will perform better on the tour of New Zealand where they are scheduled to play three T20Is and Two Tests.

It must be noted that on November 23, a 35-member combined squad of the national team and Shaheens will leave for New Zealand.
