Souths table Bennett offer as Eels make surprise call

Parramatta has ruled out an approach for Wayne Bennett, with the legendary coach closing in on a return to the Rabbitohs in 2025.

According to a report from The Sydney Morning Herald, the seven-time premiership winner has been offered a three-year deal at South Sydney, which would likely see him finish his head coaching career at the foundation club.

The 74-year-old, who will leave the Dolphins at the end of this year and hand the reins over to Kristian Woolf, has confirmed his desire to continue coaching and his interest in reuniting with some familiar faces at Redfern.

Bennett's likely move to the Bunnies comes after the club sacked Jason Demetriou earlier this week, ending a rocky 12 months for the now-former coach.

The Herald also revealed the Eels, who are also struggling for results this season, ruled out making a play for Bennett's services after a board meeting on Wednesday night.

Current coach Brad Arthur remains under contract until the end of next season and has a strong relationship with a number of players in the blue and gold.

Parramatta will have a bye this weekend after a disappointing loss to Manly in round eight, while the Rabbitohs take on reigning premiers Penrith on Thursday night.
