Karachi: Newly-appointed Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Greg Barclay has stated that the cricket’s governing body doesn’t have the mandate to influence bilateral ties between India and Pakistan.
He thinks that some things are beyond cricket but is confident to do his best to get arch-rivals on the same page with regards to cricketing matters.
“I would love nothing more than to see India and Pakistan continuing with their cricket relations like previously. I am also enough of a realist to understand that there are geopolitical issues at play here,” Barclay told to ANI.

He further added that all cricket boards at ICC aim to continue helping that would allow both boards to come to a position where they can play regular cricket.
“Beyond that, I do not think I have a mandate or ability to influence the outcomes more than that. That is really done at a level way beyond where we could be operating,” he added.
“From the cricket point of view, we would love to get those countries back together again on a regular basis. The ICC will do whatever it can to help facilitate and support an outcome that might see that happen,” he maintained.
It must be noted that Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series since 2012. Both teams have only faced in main ICC events or the Asia Cup since then.
