Karachi: Munir Riaz bagged his maiden First-Class Fifer and helped Northern take control of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) by restricting them to 249-7 on Day 2 of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA)’s Fifth Round here at National Stadium.
Faizan Riaz smashed 146 runs off 189 balls with the help of 18 boundaries and a six to help Northern declare their inning for mammoth 460-9.
In reply, KPK’s batting line got failed completely as only Kamran Ghulam resisted at the top order. The right-handed batsman kept his nerves calm and scored 67 runs with the help of 9 boundaries. Rehan Afridi contributed 34 runs but couldn’t stay for long at the crease.
Khalid Usman took charge of the opponent’s bowlers in the end and remained not-out for 59 off 82 laced with 10 boundaries and a six. Northern are now 211 runs ahead of KPK.
On the other hand, Salman Ali Agha (169) and Mohammad Imran (100) led Southern Punjab (SP) to 527-7 (Dec) against Central Punjab (CP) in first inning, resuming at 272-5 on Day 2. Both the batters provided a 187-runs stand to take a strong lead over opponents.
For CP, Waqas Maqsood, Ahmed Safi, and Hasan Ali bagged two wickets each.
In reply, CP got a steady start by their openers Ahmed Shahzad and Ali Zaryab scoring 92 runs together. Ahmed got out after scoring 33 while Ali Zaryab made 67 runs off 111 balls. Usman Salahuddin (18*) and Mohammad Saad (9*) will resume CP’s inning tomorrow at 136-2.
Bilawal Bhatti and Zahid Mehmood bagged a wicket each for CP.
Meanwhile, at State Bank Ground, Balochistan declared their first inning for 458-9 with Akbar-ur-Rehman (164) and Ayaz Tasawar (138) outclassing the opponent’s bowling line.
Shahnawaz Shani bagged four wickets for 79 runs while Abrar Ahmed once again proved his mettle and took three wickets.
In return, Sindh came out to bat and lost the last match Centurian Sharjeel Khan earlier who scored just 26. Omair Bin Yousuf and Saud Shakil rescued Sindh from there to 175-1 at the close of Day 2. Omair remained not out for 74 off 166 with 7 fours and two sixes in his account so far while Saud walked off being not out for 67 runs off 112 balls with eight boundaries. Both put 131 runs together for the second wicket partnership.
