Taylor was doing some maintenance at his farm on a hot-water system when emergency services were called to the scene in Walhalla just after midday today.

The local fire brigade, Erica and District Fire Brigade, posted a photo of the scene on social media.

"Assisting Ambulance Victoria in Walhalla this afternoon with a minor gas explosion from a gas fridge causing injuries to a male occupant of the household, who was airlifted to hospital for treatment," the caption reads.

"We wish them speedy recovery."

Taylor played 140 games with Richmond and Collingwood between 1980 and 1990.

He topped Richmond's goal-kicking on two occasions and Collingwood's five times.
