Lahore: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) defeated Higher Education Commission (HEC) by 1-0 while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSCG) beat Pakistan Airforce (PAF) on penalties (5-4) after a 1-1 draw to advance to the 2020 National Challenge Cup semi-finals.
In the first match, KPT Mohammad Bin Younis’ 37th-minute penalty was enough to beat HEC and book a spot in the semi-finals.
In the second match, Saddam Hussain scored in the 47th minute for SSGC before Faisal equalized for PAF in the 70th minute. The score remained 1-1 at the end of normal time as well as extra time.
The match was ultimately decided on the penalty shootout. Both goalkeepers made some excellent saves but SSGC’s appeared to better in the end, ensuring his side qualifies to the semis.
The semi-finals of the 2020 National Challenge Cup will be played at the Punjab Stadium on Thursday. The first semi-final will be played between Pakistan Army and WAPDA teams while the second semi-final will be played between KPT and SSGC.
