Legendary footy and fishing broadcaster Rex Hunt has made an explosive exit from his radio comeback during a blistering on-air attack at his own boss.
During 3AW's Footy Nightline on Saturday, an interview with Hawthorn icon Robert DiPierdomenico ran long into a scheduled ad-break.

That prompted 3AW head of football Craig Moore to jump in Hunt's ear, telling the 30-year radio veteran to can the chat.
"Yeah thanks, Craig. I've got steam coming out of my ears," Hunt said.
"My producer, who is just a magnificent producer and lovely person … I tell you now Craig, why we dropped a break, and if you've got a problem from down the road to sell 3AW Football, I could sell 3AW Football.
"Why we dropped the break Craig – we were speaking to a man, a five-time VFL premiership player – '78, '83, '86, '88, '89 – a Brownlow Medal in 1986, three-time AFL Team of the Year, one of the most successful Italians ever to play the game, was selected in the Italian Team of the Century, played 240 games and scored 130 goals more than you, Craig …
"Why do I steam? Because you're losing the very feel of what 3AW was built up from. (3AW greats) Norman Banks and Harry Beitzel and some other fish-kissing idiot. I'll drop it now, but don't ring during my program. Got it?"
Hunt then demanded his intro to be played again so he could cool off, before he leaned into another withering outburst.
"It might be my last night," Hunt said.
"Because I feel good and I don't need people telling me to shut up.
"Because I take you where millions of people go and you will never come back from it.
"And if I have to worry about lightweights after me building the foundation for most of you people, I'll just go fishing."
3AW station manager Stephen Beers has since informed staff that Hunt had genuinely quit his post.
"Rex Hunt has advised us that he is sadly taking leave of his duties at 3AW to focus on his family," the statement reads.
"As much as he has loved his return to 3AW and we have loved having him on Footy Nightline, we wish him well for the future.
"Rex knows the door is always open for him."
Hunt made a radio comeback with 3AW in February 2020, for the AFL's State of Origin bushfire charity match.
Before his radio and television career began, Hunt played 202 VFL games with Richmond, Geelong and St Kilda between 1968 and 1978, winning two flags with the Tigers.
