Parish signs extension to remain a Bomber

Essendon has locked away another one of its midfield maestros with Darcy Parish signing a two-year contract extension.

The 23-year-old's extension will see him remain with Essendon through the 2023 season, where he will become a free agent.

Parish has been one of the AFL's biggest breakout stars in 2021, upping his disposals average from last season by over 10 per game to a career high 32.1 through 15 matches.

The Geelong Falcons product has rocketed into All-Australian contention and is firmly in the mix for the Brownlow Medal at the end of the year.

Parish's signature follows that of vice-captain Zach Merrett, and the young gun said re-signing with the club that picked him fifth overall in the 2015 draft was an "easy" call.

"We're building something pretty special at Essendon and it was a very easy decision to sign on again," Parish said in a club release.

"We have a really clear plan under 'Truck' [senior coach Ben Rutten] and Dyson's [captain Dyson Heppell] leadership and we're all really determined and hungry to build on what we've started this year, but we know we have a long way to go.

"It's been a really enjoyable place to be this season. I think that is really evident to our members and supporters and we have a lot of growth in us as a developing team.

"I'm excited to continue to build my own game and to see what's in store as we continue to develop as a playing group over the coming years."
