Ross Lyon has denied he is in the running to be Carlton's next senior coach, labelling the links to the role as "incredibly disrespectful".
Lyon has been the hot favourite to replace incumbent Blues coach David Teague amid Carlton's disappointing 2021 season, but said he was yet to be contacted by the club.
After veteran journalist Jon Anderson stated on 3AW that he'd spoken to people who he'd "think would know" about the situation, calling the Lyon-Blues links "strong", the former Fremantle and St Kilda coach hit back.
"I'm going to put a full stop on this," he told Nine's Footy Classified.
"I can categorically say I have had no contact from anyone at the Carlton Football Club or the Collingwood Football Club. That is fake news and I haven't reached out to anybody.
"At some point can we all just move on? It's incredibly disrespectful. There's a review going on no one understands the stresses of the job (like) David Teague and his family and they had a win last week.
"I just think it's cheap, I don't like it and he 'thinks they would know'. You know what? Apply some rigour and make sure they know."
Lyon also denied that he had spoken to Collingwood regarding its own coaching role, and urged caution for whoever ends up being the club's next senior coach.
Prior to Nathan Buckley's resignation, Lyon had been a vocal supporter of Buckley's, arguing that he should be retained as Collingwood, and his tune did not change after Buckley's exit in recent weeks.
"They've set an incredibly high bar for everybody," he said of Collingwood's search.
"Nathan Buckley had a prelim, grand final, they've virtually said unless you win a premiership (you're out). I hear about the rebuild but I don't think that's the reality once you get the job.
"It seems as though it was almost a political decision that Buckley goes and I'm not sure that that's settled.
"Based on what happened to Nathan Buckley and my view of his performance and what he went through this year and what the club went through, he bore the brunt and they lost some players through injuries and fielded seven debutants, for him to be considered not the one to take them forward I'm not sure they've got real clarity on what that role needs.
"They're an incredibly big club, but do you sit here and think they're a settled club at the minute?"
