Blind athletes protest for getting quota-based government jobs

KARACHI: Blind athletes held a protest here outside Press Club against Sindh Government while demanding government jobs as per a five percent quota for disabled persons.

Blind cricketers Abdul Malik, Muhammad Shuja, and Sher Ali Chachar, blind cyclist Muhammad Aqeel, Olympic participants in Javelin Throw Sajid Afridi, and Qurban Ali were among the protestors.

The athletes said they are jobless despite vacant space up to 8,000 seats in government departments as per the job quota for disabled persons.

“We are finding it too hard to meet ends without a job. There are vacancies in job quota for disabled persons but we can’t find any way to get it. I appeal to the Sindh government to provide us jobs and help us run our homes,” blind cricketer Abdul Malik said.
