Roosters forward Siosiua Taukeiaho has claimed a moral victory at tonight's NRL Judiciary, avoiding a fine after challenging his grade one careless high tackle charge.
Taukeiaho was initially hit with a $1700 fine over the weekend for seemingly incidental contact on Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary, whose head met the Rooster's arm with force while falling.
The incident prompted referee Ashley Klein to send Taukeiaho to the bin much to the dismay of Roosters coach Trent Robinson at the time.
The 29-year-old looked to have the charge and fine wiped tonight at the NRL Judiciary, and emerged successful from his hearing after a three-man panel found him not guilty.
Taukeiaho would have been handed a $2,250 fine had he been unsuccessful at the judiciary. His charge would not have incurred a suspension, regardless of the outcome at the judiciary tonight.
Following the incident on Friday night, Cleary admitted he "fell into" the collision. Robinson struggled to come to terms with the decision from referee Klein.
"I don't know where Siosiua was supposed to go," Robinson said.
"Is he supposed to jump out of the way? I'm interested in what he was supposed to do?"
