Swans, Giants thrown into COVID drama

The Sydney Swans and GWS Giants will both jump on a plane tonight bound for Victoria amid the COVID-19 cluster in NSW.

It was announced today the NSW outbreak, which has centred around the Sydney suburb of Bondi, had grown to 21, with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealing the number would continue to swell as more household contacts of cases test positive in the coming days.

According to a report from The Age, the decision to move both teams was made amid fears the Victorian government will tighten its border with NSW.

The Swans are currently scheduled to face Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, while GWS were pencilled in to host Hawthorn at GIANTS Stadium that afternoon.

Swans coach John Longmire said earlier today his side would have no problems taking on a quick lockdown period if required.

"It can be done," Longmire said.

"It's obviously a different preparation.

"We had some experience of that last year – not quite to the extent that those teams had (in regards to) the hours that you spend at the ground.

"But we had some experience of it last year, it's not completely foreign.

"In the end, you've just got to roll the sleeves up and get the job done.

"We know that's not going to be easy, but whatever is thrown up at us you've got to get over those hurdles and get on with the job at hand."
