UEFA Euro 2020: Goalless battle at Wembley between England and Scotland

The match between England and Scotland ended in a goalless scoreline on the board on Friday at Wembley Stadium, London. It was one of the most anticipated encounters of Group D in the UEFA Euro 2020 which was expected to have a good game of thrillers between the two.

Gareth Southgate’s England had 2 changes in the lineup for the game and brought Reece James and Luke Shaw. The visiting team, Scotland had 4 changes in their side. England had a good start at the first phase of the game but did not able to convert the chances into goals. John Stones and Mason Mount started to rattle the Scottish defence in the opening 20 minutes. Scotland also in return counter-attacked, but English Goal-keeper Jordon Pickford neutralized the incoming goal chance by Scotland’s striker Stephen O’DonnellAt the end of the first half, the score remained 0-0.

Both the teams were looking very lethal in their attack. Southgate and England were very desperate to go up in the game so they brought striker Jack Grealish to sharp up the attack. Captain Harry Kane was not looking very good and was rusty, so Southgate replaced him with Marcus Rashford in the last 15 minutes. The match then ended with a goalless scoreline and it turned out to be a bummer for the spectators in Wembley.

After the game skipper, Harry Kane said, “Fair result, fair play to Scotland they defended well. It wasn’t our best performance, but it’s another point closer to qualification and that’s our ultimate goal. We just have to recover and look forward to next game in a few days”.

Kane also added, “We’ve got another big game in a few days against the Czechs, we want to finish sharp — it’s a point, not what we wanted but it’s one step closer to qualifying. One step at a time and we go again.”

Southgate after the encounter said, “ We’ve got another big game in a few days against the Czechs, we want to finish sharp — it’s a point, not what we wanted but it’s one step closer to qualifying. One step at a time and we go again.”

England will play their next encounter against the Czech Republic on Tuesday and Scotland will play against Croatia.
