Aussie duo match legend in reveal of Tokyo team

Cate Campbell and Emily Seebohm have joined the legendary Leisel Jones as the only Australian swimmers to have qualified for four Olympic Games.

And after the Australian Olympic Committee tonight announced a 35-strong swimming team for Tokyo at the conclusion of the selection trials, it can also be revealed that 21 debutants are in line to feature in the postponed Games.

Australian Olympic team chef de mission Ian Chesterman had high praise for Campbell and Seebohm.

"I want to highlight Cate Campbell and Emily Seebohm in particular," Chesterman said.

"Achieving a feat of four Olympic Games, only reached by one Australian swimmer in history, is testament to their persistence, character and talent and I am thrilled to have such fantastic ambassadors on the Australian Olympic team for Tokyo."

Campbell and Seebohm will be joined in Tokyo by breaststroker Matthew Wilson, who was heartbroken after failing to qualify in the final of the men's 200-metre breaststroke this week.

The former world record holder was nominated under Swimming Australia's selection policy regarding extenuating circumstances, after a family bereavement disrupted his trial performance.

Wilson finished second in the 200-metre breaststroke final but fell short of the qualifying time, albeit by less than a quarter of a second.
