The club that should answer star's contract plea

Andrew Johns believes Shaun Johnson could make a positive impact at South Sydney as a potential replacement for the outgoing Adam Reynolds.

According to recent reports, the Rabbitohs are interested in signing the 30-year-old playmaker, who could be available at a discounted price after his injury issues.

Johnson enjoyed a prolific 2020 season before rupturing his Achilles in Round 19, and Johns backed the Kiwi star to regain his touch next season.

"Even though he's coming off an Achilles injury, I think he's still got a couple of really good years in front of him," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Immortal Behaviour.

"Last year he was right up there in the Dally M before he got injured.

"It surprised me that Cronulla let him go, but obviously Craig Fitzgibbon has got a plan there.

"He'd definitely be a good signing for Souths, but Adam Reynolds should be there."

After winning a thriller for the Sharks with a long-range field-goal last night, Johnson told Nine he hoped it would prompt some NRL clubs to pick up the phone and make him an offer.

"If there are any clubs out there after a halfback, I'm your man," he said with a smile.

When questioned over whether the Rabbitohs' faithful would approve the club replacing the beloved Reynolds with another ageing playmaker, Johns said it would all come down to winning.

"It must be a price tag thing," he said of Souths' interest in Johnson.

"If they're winning I don't think they'll be jumping up and down too much."
