Cricket star's 'horrendous' tantrums at umpire

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is in hot water after throwing a pair of tantrums at umpiring decisions while playing in the Dhaka Premier League.

Shakib, who is a former captain of Bangladesh's national team, was playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club against Abahani Limited when he blew his top.

The first incident occurred in the fifth over of Abahani's run chase, when he was denied a wicket after a vociferous LBW appeal. After the umpire gave his not-out call, Shakib charged towards the official, before kicking the stumps down.

Incredibly he was not done with the tantrums for the day, once again charging at an umpire just an over later, before pulling all three stumps out of the ground and slamming them down onto the pitch.

The 34-year-old was heavily criticised by a number of cricket journalists after footage of his tantrum went viral on social media.

"You cannot do this," tweeted United News of Bangladesh reporter Saif Hasnat.

"Shakib completely lost his cool. Twice in a single game. Such a shame! Words fell short to describe these."

"This is horrendous behaviour," tweeted Cricbuzz reporter Rob Johnston.

"Shakib Al Hasan should be given a significant ban for this."

It remains unclear whether Shakib will be sanctioned for the two incidents at all.

Shakib has previously broken the stumps out of frustration at the international level as well, doing so after being dismissed during an Asia Cup game against Pakistan in 2016.

Considered by most to be Bangladesh's greatest cricketer of all-time and one of the best all-rounders in the game's history, Shakib's stellar career has been shrouded by controversy of late.

He only recently returned to the game after serving a two-year ban for breaching the ICC's Anti-Corruption Code.
