Williams, whose partner Charlotte is pregnant, had requested a release from the Raiders several times for the 2022 season in the wake of the upcoming arrival of the couple's baby.
But he was shocked when the Raiders sacked him immediately with the season still not at the halfway mark.
"We have started talking with George and his manager to assure he's aware of his rights and that due process is followed," Newton told Wide World of Sports.
"His circumstances changed with the pregnancy and they obviously feel they need family support back home in England.
"It is a tough situation but we just want to make sure his rights are looked after."
Newton also spoke to Williams' English team-mate Josh Hodgson, who spoke out in the media to show support from the Raiders players for the nippy halfback.
"It's a difficult position for all concerned," Newton said.
