Nauman Ali completes 50 wickets as Northern takes lead against Central Punjab

Karachi: Nauman Ali bagged seven wickets to complete 50-wickets haul in this year’s Quaid-e-Azam Trophy as Northern bowled out Central Punjab (CP) for 234 in the first inning on Day 2 of Seventh Round. 

Nauman dominated with the bowl to dent CP after they resumed the second Day from 49-0. Mohammad Akhlaq remained their top-scorer with 67 runs off 121 balls. Ali Zaryab scored 45 runs while Qasim Akram made 31.

Besides Nauman, Sadaf Hussain, Hammad Azam, and Shadab Majeed bagged a wicket each.

After taking 9 runs lead in the first inning, Northern closed Day 2 at 77-2. Openers Nasir Nawaz (42) and Sarmad Bhatti (13) provided a steady 49-runs start to Northern but couldn’t continue for long.

 

Umer Amin (17*) and Faizan Riaz (3*) will bat for Northern tomorrow. Hasan Ali and Ahmed Safi will resume their bowling from 1-17 and 1-7 respectively.

On the other hand at National Stadium Karachi, Aamir Yamin took six wickets to help Southern Punjab (SP) bowl out Balochistan for 164 and take 92-runs first-inning lead.

Resuming at 16-4, Balochistan had another bad day as they were bundled out for just 164 in reply of 256-10. Ayaz Tasawar fought hard for Balochistan and scored 76 off 97 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and a six.

Mohammad Ilyas bagged two while Zia-ul-Haq and Zahid Mehmood took a wicket each for SP apart from Aamir.

In reply, Imran Rafique (60*) and Saif Badar (41*) drove SP to 149-2 at Day 2’s end. Jalat Khan bagged both the wickets for Balochistan.

Meanwhile, at State Bank Ground, Centurian Kamran Ghulam steered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 260-4 and they are now Sindh by 31 runs. Kamran remained not out for 124 off 241 balls and he struck 18 boundaries during his stay at the crease. Rehan Afridi (30*) remained not out alongside Kamran.

Earlier, Fakhar Zaman gained his form back and scored 62 off 139 balls laced with eight boundaries.

For Sindh, Tabish Khan bagged two wickets while Shahnawaz Dhani and Mir Hamza took a wicket each.
