Roosters star Victor Radley's hopes of a NSW State of Origin debut have been dashed by a looming four to six-week ban.
Radley copped two charges from the match review committee after being cited four times in the Roosters' loss to Brisbane on Saturday, in which he was twice sin-binned.
The incidents for which he was sent from the field for 10 minutes, a hit on five-eighth Albert Kelly and a high tackle on Tevita Pangai Jr, have brought the pair of charges.
Radley will cop a one-game ban for the hit on Kelly during a kick, which was deemed grade one dangerous contact head/neck. He will get a three-match ban with an early guilty plea for the tackle on Pangai Jr, which was deemed a grade two careless high tackle.
The high tackle would become a four-match ban if Radley fights the charge at the judiciary and loses. If he fights both charges and loses, the penalty points add up to a six-game ban.
A four-game ban sidelines Radley for Origin I on June 9 and for every match up until Origin II, meaning it's highly unlikely he would be selected for the second game. A six-game ban would wipe him out for the entire series.
Fellow Roosters forward Angus Crichton is facing a two-game ban for dangerous contact on Kelly, irrespective of plea; meaning that he may take his chances at a judiciary hearing. That would also rule him out of Origin for NSW, amid a season in which his outstanding form had guaranteed selection.
NSW coach Brad Fittler learned of the charges live on The Sunday Footy Show.
"They might go and fight that [for Crichton], definitely," Fittler said. "But for Victor … one just got rubbed out.
"There's still a couple of games to go, a lot of players playing today and next week. Just sit back and wait. A lot of players that are in really good form, so there'll definitely be opportunity."
Broncos prop Matt Lodge is facing a one-game ban for a high tackle on Radley, irrespective of plea, while Brisbane halfback Tyson Gamble is facing one to two matches for a crusher tackle on teen debutant Joseph Suaalii.
Bulldogs pair Chris Smith and Sione Katoa are both facing one to two-match suspensions for crusher tackles in their loss to the Titans, against Phillip Sami and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui respectively.
A raft of other players copped fines for incidents in Saturday's matches as the NRL's crackdown on foul play continues.
