Queensland Maroons great Will Chambers has refused to rule out making a fairytale State of Origin comeback, declaring he'd "never say no" if new coach Paul Green threw him a jumper.
The former Queensland centre returned from a year out of the game when he signed with Cronulla last month – and on Friday night he celebrated his first win with the club.
The 32-year-old was then asked by former Queensland captain Darren Lockyer on Nine's post-match coverage if he fancied a return to the Origin stage.
Chambers, who pulled on a Maroons jersey 13 times and was a member of Queensland's 2015 and 2017 series wins, said he wouldn't ever reject a comeback call because "it's something I'll always treasure".
"Yeah, I don't know … I'd never say no to Queensland," Chambers laughed.
"It's obviously a special part of me, it's something I'll always treasure and if I ever get an opportunity I'd never say no.
"We'll just see how it all pans out."
Rabbitohs weapon Dane Gagai will lock up one of Queensland's centre spots but who partners the 16-game Maroons champion on the three-quarter line remains to be seen.
Big-framed Panther Kurt Capewell joined Gagai in the centres in games one and two of Queensland's victorious 2020 series, before Storm recruit Brenko Lee slotted into the centres for game three as Capewell moved to the second row.
Green might choose to haul Chambers into the Maroons squad for his invaluable experience.
Queensland will be without inspirational wrecking ball Josh Papalii for game one after the Raiders prop was suspended for a high tackle on Bulldogs winger Tui Katoa in Magic Round.
And 31-year-old hooker Jake Friend won't feature in this year's Origin series after retiring from the game due to concussion.
