NSW Swifts coach Briony Akle has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart after his comments regarding the toughness of netballers.
Stuart has been in the firing line over the last week for his comments made to News Corp journalist Paul Kent, and has since issued an apology.
After the Raiders coach was slammed by Australian netball great Liz Ellis, Akle too, took a dig at the under-fire Stuart after her Swifts claimed a 55-43 win over the Vixens.
"The Vixens are a championship team," Akle said. "I was not comfortable at all that we had won that game, even with five minutes to go."
"Netballers are tough. It was a tough 60 minutes of netball and it took that to win the game.
"Swifts fans, they're crying out for netball and it's been nearly two years since we've played.
"For them to be loyal to us and come back and turn out like they did today and support a team that has been away, it just shows the legacy of the team.
"Netball and women's sport is definitely up there."
Swifts star Sam Wallace was once again the chief destroyer for Akle, shooting at 100 per cent efficiency in the win as she went 48 for 48 on goal attempts.
