Tigers duo injured in nightclub altercation

Richmond will be without star midfielder Shai Bolton for up to three weeks after he fractured his wrist in an altercation at a nightclub over the weekend.

Bolton and teammate Daniel Rioli were both involved in the incident which occurred after Rioli's girlfriend was subjected to inappropriate behaviour.

According to a club statement, "Rioli was punched after confronting the patron and suffered a cut under his eye that required two stitches".

Despite their involvement in the altercation, both Bolton and Rioli are not expected to face disciplinary action from Richmond, according to Nine News' Alicia Muling.

The loss of Bolton comes at an extremely inopportune time for Richmond, whose 4-4 start to the season is its worst record through eight games since the 2016 season.

Bolton, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to re-sign with Richmond, has been one of the Tigers' star performers so far in 2021.

The 22-year-old's 21.8 disposals per game through the first eight games of the season is a career-best mark.

He joins the likes of club captain Trent Cotchin, Shane Edwards, Dion Prestia, Kane Lambert and Ivan Soldo on the sidelines for the battling reigning AFL premiers.
