Wallabies star Reece Hodge has been left lamenting a missed penalty kick inside the final five minutes of his side's 15-15 draw against Argentina.
Despite dominating possession throughout the match, Dave Rennie's men let a nine-point lead slip in the second half in what was a dour try-less encounter.
After Nicolas Sanchez had tied the scores for Argentina with three consecutive penalty kicks, Hodge had the chance to put Australia ahead with just minutes left, but saw his 40m effort drift wide of the right goalpost.
A shattered Hodge took the blame for the defeat and admitted that his side had struggled to manage the game in a sufficient manner.
"I feel like I've let the country down so it's a pretty tough one to take at the moment," he told Fox Rugby.
"Obviously we were up 15-6 and had our chances to seal that game. I guess inaccuracy and poor game management from our game managers let us down. Especially in that first half we created a lot of opportunities, it's just inaccuracy in the last passes and movements that let us down.
"It was 9-6 at half-time, but with the weight of possession we had it should have been 15 or 20 and it's a credit to the way that Argentina defended also."
Hodge's disappointment was echoed by his teammate Nic White, who hit back at suggestions that a draw was better than a loss.
"The position we were in, we won't see it like that maybe Argentina see it as a positive result," he said.
"We had that game and it was there for the taking and we're pretty disappointed with that."
