Roosters forced into isolation amid COVID scare

The Sydney Roosters have been caught up in the latest COVID-19 scare, following confirmation the man who tested positive yesterday visited the Moore Park precinct.

Anyone who visited the Azure Cafe on Monday is regarded as a casual contact by NSW Health, and must get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

The venue is located in The Entertainment Quarter at Moore Park and is close to the offices of both the Sydney Roosters and the NRL.

The players and staff have been put into isolation and will stay there until they're given the all-clear.

Nine's Danny Weidler reports that the movements of Sydney Roosters players and staff are currently being traced, and anyone who visited the venues identified by NSW Health will not be allowed to rejoin the squad.

It's believed the players were sent home early on Monday following Saturday night's emotional win over Newcastle, a match that saw both Brett Morris and Lindsay Collins suffer serious knee injuries, in Morris' case almost certainly ending his glittering career.

According to the NSW Health website, the exposure time at the Azure Cafe was between 12.30pm and 1pm.

While the players went home early on Monday, it's not yet known if any Roosters staff visited the cafe at that time.

The Roosters are due to play Parramatta tomorrow night at Bankwest Stadium.

The latest outbreak also has potential ramifications for next week's Magic Round, with all 16 clubs scheduled to play at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium over a three-day period.

The Queensland government has been quick to put travel restrictions in place throughout the course of the pandemic, and a case of community transmission in Sydney is likely to have the authorities on high alert north of the border.
