Tyson Gamble has won fans over with a sensational return to top-flight football as he steered the Broncos' to a thrilling 36-28 comeback win over the Titans at Suncorp Stadium.
Thrown into the mix in lieu of Tom Dearden and Brodie Croft who were dropped to reserves this week, Gamble was given the opportunity to prove his worth in arguably the most high-pressure position going around – the Broncos' No.7 jersey – and what a performance it was.
Sitting alongside Anthony Milford, Gamble's commanding, organisational play proved the leadership Brisbane had been craving but more importantly, formed the perfect foundation to free up Milford to do what he does best.
"He was really lippy, he got in there," Milford told Nine at full-time. "We played together at Souths Logan, he allowed me to play more freely and pick my spots in.
"I thought he was really good tonight."
The Broncos' fourth halves pairing in eight weeks combined for 353 kicking metres and an assist, but more importantly, it was Gamble's steady orchestration that saw Brisbane comeback from a 22-0 deficit to draw level by half-time.
"I just want to talk about Tyson Gamble," Storm great Billy Slater said. "He's the one organising play, he's the one talking and pointing. He is getting to the points and getting these plays on.
"He was outstanding in this game, he just gave so much structure and gave Milford that freedom.
"Without hearing what was said on the field, you knew he had control of the field with his hands, his gestures he was telling people what position and where to get in, that's what you want from a directive half."
Queensland legend Johnathan Thurston was equally impressed.
"In weeks gone by, the halves have been sitting out of the back of the Broncos' forward when they're attacking the line, and it just doesn't do anything to the defence," he said.
"So, it's good to see Tyson Gamble up the front."
Paul Vautin added: "Well, Kevin Walters did say before the match, this is what Tyson brings, he's got a voice. He talks to all the players, he tells them what to do, where to go. 'Get on the outside of me, inside of me, wherever' and he's having a fine game."
NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler said the Broncos' win "all came down to Tyson, where he was setting it up."
Coach Kevin Walters confirmed to Nine that Gamble would be keeping his starting position alongside Milford in the halves for Brisbane's round nine clash against the Cowboys.
