Oliver to remain a Demon after contract extension

Melbourne's unbeaten start to the season is already paying dividends, with star midfielder Clayton Oliver reaching an agreement with the club on a new deal.

Oliver has been locked in for a further two years, with the new deal to see him through to restricted free agency at the end of 2023.

After a tumultuous 2020 season for the Demons, Oliver was linked with a move to Carlton during the off-season but has now recommitted to the club.

"The club's running unbelievable at the moment – 4-0, couldn't be in a better place," Oliver told Melbourne Media.

"[There's] a lot of good energy through the group, a lot of positivity.

"Probably in recent years, when the other teams have got a run on against us, we've been a little bit negative, but we've matured as a group and we're handling it a lot better.

"It makes it a lot 'funner' and we're just laughing out there and having fun."

Oliver's contract extension comes after Melbourne locked down captain Max Gawn to a bumper four-year deal on the eve of the new campaign.

Melbourne is one of the early season premiership fancies after starting the AFL season 4-0 for the first time since 1994. The Demons host the struggling Hawks in Round Five.
