John Morris and the Cronulla Sharks have parted ways effective immediately after the Sharks and Craig Fitzgibbon reached an agreement on a three-year deal.
Morris' departure means an interim coach will spearhead Cronulla for the remainder of the season, with Josh Hannay the likely option at this stage.
Fitzgibbon, whose deal commences in 2022, is hoping to bring Cameron Ciraldo with him to the club, with the Panthers assistant coach highly regarded.
Currently a valued assistant coach with the Roosters, Fitzgibbon has been on Trent Robinson's staff for the club's three premierships in 2013, 2018 and 2019.
After such a long and successful apprenticeship he was always going to get his shot at a head coaching role and the Sharks have convinced him to take it with them.
