Tim Tszyu's promoters are prepared to pay $10 million to host a looming world title fight in Australia.
Tszyu (18-0, 14 KOs) underlined his credentials as the WBO's No.1 contender at super-welterweight with a brutal fifth-round TKO of Dennis Hogan last Wednesday.
He wants to fight WBO champion Brian Castano, though the Argentinian is chasing a unification fight with IBF, WBA, WBC and The Ring champion Jermell Charlo, a star American boxer.
While Tszyu is treading water somewhat while waiting for his title shot, promoter No Limit Boxing is intent on him challenging a world champion on home soil. No Limit Boxing's George Rose said that an estimated $10 million cost to bring the fight to Australia would not be a deterrent.
"It is around that figure; it is just what we have to do to make it happen," Rose told The Sun-Herald.
"The way I see it, the world title has to be out here in Australia. That's the situation we're in and that's what we need to come up with to make it happen.
"We want the world title and we want it in Australia.
"Whether it's Charlo or Castano, they are the targets.
"Timmy has to fight for a world title here in Australia, especially given the times we're in [with COVID-19]. Australia is the best location for it.
"When you bring in international fighters, the costs go through the roof. To get the quality opposition, it will cost a lot so we need to look at where we can feasibly do that."
Tszyu is being pursued for another domestic fight by Michael Zerafa but has otherwise outgrown the Australian boxing scene.
The son of boxing icon Kostya Tszyu was mighty impressive against Hogan, crushing him with body shots and forcing his corner to throw in the towel.
Tszyu said after the fight that he intended to become a global boxing star. At age 26, he looks ready to take on the world.
