‘Always enjoy working with junior spinners’ Mushtaq Ahmed

LAHORE: National High Performance Centre (NHPC)’s spin bowling coach, Mushtaq Ahmed said he is working with U19 spinners on their basics.

Speaking in a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mushtaq praised young talented spinners from the training camp of the Bangladesh-bound national U19 squad.

“Here we have some really talented spinners who have skills and potential to represent Pakistan at top level,” he said.

“I always enjoy spending on-field time with young spinners as we get a chance to work on their basics. It’s important to polish their raw talent to make them potent. They are a bright future of Pakistan,” he added.

Former Test cricketer stressed the need for spinners to play First-Class cricket to groom in a solid way. “I always say that for spinners, playing First-Class cricket is very important. Because in First-Class cricket, spinners realize their strength and weaknesses. This long format helps spinners a lot to improve their bowling,” he shared.

Moreover, the cricketer-turned-coach highlighted few young spinners from the camp including Qasim Akram and Faisal Akram. “We have some really good spinners and our future looks bright. All they need to understand their bowling and work on reading batsmen,” concluded Ahmed.
