Nauman once again puts Northern in driving seat

Karachi: Left-arm spinner Nauman Ali bagged six wickets to put his team, Northern, on track against Southern Punjab (SP) on Day 3 of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy’s Sixth Round. 

Northern bowled out SP for 195 runs in the second inning to set a 200-runs target for themselves.

Resuming the third day at 19-0, SP lost opener Zain Abbas earlier who scored just 7 runs. Zeeshan Ashraf (22) and Umar Siddique put up 25 runs together before getting out in quick successions for Northern.

Salman Ali Agha stood out for SP as he scored 89 runs off 121 balls with the help of nine boundaries and a six. Whereas, Imran Rafique made 61 runs to further strengthen his team’s total.

With another brilliant spell, Nauman has once again gained the top spot in most wicket-takers’ list so far with 43 scalps.

At National Stadium, Sharjeel Khan lifted Sindh against Central Punjab as they were set to chase a mammoth total of 432 runs. Khan smashed four boundaries and three sixes to score 89 runs before falling on a run-out in the twilight phase of the third day.

Saad Ali (24*) and Shehzar Mohammad (26*) will resume Sindh inning tomorrow at 152-4, with needing 280 more runs to win their second match in the tournament.

For CP, Waqas Maqsood, Hasan Ali, and Qasim Akram bagged a wicket each.

Meanwhile, Balochistan closed Day 3 at 154-6 while chasing 372 runs against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to win in Sixth Round. Awais Zia (43) and Ali Waqas (44) put a solid foundation for their team but couldn’t manage to continue for long. Ayaz Tasawar (17*) and Umaid Asif (8*) will bat tomorrow for the chasing side.

Sajid Khan and Mohammad Wasim bagged two wickets each for KPK.
