‘Our players will get help for T20 WC by playing IPL’ Boucher

KARACHI: South African cricket team’s head coach Mark Boucher said their players will get experience ahead of T20 World Cup by playing Indian Premier League (IPL) at different venues in India.

Boucher was asked about some of the South African players missing a one-day and four T20Is against Pakistan for playing IPL. The head coach said it’s not ideal but will help their players to gain experience of playing in Indian conditions before the all-important T20 World Cup at the same venue.

“We were aware of our players who were to leave Pakistan series for IPL. BCCI and CSA had an earlier agreement according to which some of our players were supposed to leave for IPL and we considered that thing while selecting our team,” he said.

“I know its not ideal to leave the team at the point when our series is important for world cup preparations but let’s take the positive side of this thing, our players will get help for T20 WC by playing IPL in Indian conditions,” he added.

It must be noted here that Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi, and Anrich Nortje are supposed to travel to India to play IPL.

CSA and South African players remained under immense criticism for prioritizing a private league over national duty. Pakistan and South Africa are scheduled to play three ODIs and four T20Is between April 2 to 16. IPL is scheduled to start on April 9.
