Canberra: A speculation has been mounted among the cricketing world after Yuzvendra Chahal replaced Ravindra Jadeja as a ‘concussion substitute’ in the first T20I between Australia and India.
The India all-rounder was seen struggling due to a hamstring injury but off the second delivery of the 20th over, Jadeja, in an attempt to pull Mitchell Starc, top-edged a delivery into his helmet.
At the end of the Indian innings, it later emerged that he had been replaced by a ‘like-for-like’ option with Chahal due to being hit on the head.
Despite being hit on the helmet, Jadeja kept batting, hitting back-to-back fours off the fourth and fifth ball. Chahal came in handy for the visitors as he ends up claiming a match-winning 3/25 and player of the match award.
The decision led to speculation, terming it as a biased advantage by the visitors as he was already limping with a hamstring injury throughout his batting and had been replaced by a specialist bowler.
Australian head coach Justin Langer was seen having a verbal spat with match referee David Boon by the side of the ground during the innings break.

Jaddu's concussion comes as blessing in disguise for India. Chahal will bowl. Aussie coach Langer shows his obvious angst. pic.twitter.com/xOWT3tb5AN— Parveen Kumar Dogra (@kparveen) December 4, 2020
Former English captain Michael Vaughan and ex-Australian pacer Tom Moody also questioned as there was no physio to access Jadeja.
No Doctor or Physio came out to Test Jadeja for concussion … he then looks like his has done something to his leg … then they pull the concussion replacement .. !!!!! #RatSniffed #OnOn #AUSvIND

I have no issue with Jadeja being substitute with Chahal. But I do have an issue with a Doctor & Physio not being present after Jadeja was struck on the helmet which I believe is protocol now? #AusvInd

Netizens also expressed their take on this matter which led India to win the first T20I of the three-match series by 11 runs.
BREAKING: Ravi Jadeja has been subbed out of the game with concussion meaning he can be replaced in this innings. He had copped a knock to helmet but batted on… and picked up with a late hamstring problem. Would suspect that's what the Langer and Boon blow up is about

Was Jadeja even checked after being hit on the head? Don't remember seeing it. He had pulled his hamstring and the physio was out there for that. https://t.co/cUr2NvbqwI

Jadeja must be the first person in the world to get concussion from tweaking a hamstring #AUSvsIND https://t.co/AUKOERAPMF
