Mass brawl erupts as title fight descends into chaos

A UBO championship boxing bout in Turkey descended into chaos as chairs were thrown while attendees invaded the ring and attacked Russian fighter Sergei Gorokhov.

Gorokhov (16-11-2) squared off with Turkey's Emirkhan Kalkhan (7-0) at the Besirli Sports Hall and scored a stoppage victory in the second round to win the belt.

The Russian was overjoyed with the victory as he celebrated with his corner team before making his way over to Kalkhan to check on his opponent.

But that did not sit will with a member of Kalkhan's entourage, who shoved Gorokhov away, before one of the Russian's cornermen charged over and pushed him back.

That's when the situation spiralled out of control as both teams clashed, before spectators stormed into the ring.

Plastic chairs were hurled into the squared circle as Gorokhov's trainer was set upon and kicked by several men.

The Russian fighter was blindsided by another before he was beaten with chairs, while others kicked and punched him on the canvas.

Gorokhov took to social media to post an update from a nearby hospital after the brawl.

"We're currently in a hospital in Turkey," he said.

"Ismail [trainer] has suffered a head injury and is having an MRI scan right now. I've come through it the least badly. The gloves helped protect me. There were probably about 80 people there attacking us.

"They got in the ring and beat us up after our brilliant victory in the second round, where we knocked this fighter out twice. But the Turks behaved very badly.

"But thank God, everyone is alive. We've got a police escort now; we'll head straight from the hotel to our rooms.

"I don't think we'll be staying there tonight. If anyone tries to pull a stunt, we'll fly straight to Georgia. Then we'll drive through Georgia overnight to Mineralnye Vody, and from there to Kaliningrad."

The Russian updated his fans shortly after confirming Gorokhov he and his team had arrived safely in Georgia.

Unfortunately, though, the knockout win over was overturned and the result voided due to the melee.

Rules state that once the ropes have been breached and people from outside step through, the result does not stand.

An investigation is underway, with suspensions and fines expected.
