Tszyu fight to go ahead after Bondi attack caused re-think

Tim Tszyu's fight with Anthony Velazquez in Sydney on Wednesday night is set to go ahead after the pre-bout press conference was on Monday cancelled out of respect for the grief being experienced across Australia after the Bondi terrorist attack.

The pre-fight weigh-in is still scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

There was a cloud over the event after Tszyu's press conference was cancelled but insiders have told Wide World of Sports that at this stage Wednesday's fight night will at the TikTok Entertainment Centre in Darling Harbour will go ahead as scheduled.

The outing against Velazquez is arguably the most important of Tszyu's career.

Diaz, who was in the corner for Noel Mikaelian's WBC world title cruiserweight clash against Badou Jack in Los Angeles on Sunday AEDT, plans to arrive in Sydney on Tuesday AEDT ahead of Wednesday's fight.

Velazquez's trainer Hector Bermudez lit the fuse late last week, when he said Tszyu was "ready to retire" and that his new partnership with Diaz was bound to fail.
