'There's reasons': Madge defends Walsh after return to form

Broncos coach Michael Maguire has defended the erratic nature of Reece Walsh's form this year after the fullback played a starring role in his side's comeback win over the Dolphins.

Walsh has been subject to criticism for the 32 errors to his name from 15 matches, but reminded everyone what he's capable of over the weekend.

The 23-year-old has been sighted in arguments with namely Kotoni Staggs on the field, with errors coming from passes between the two at times. However, they have also connected for a number of brilliant tries.

On Nine's 100% Footy, Phil Gould asked Maguire if he knows what's going to come from Walsh, with the coach backing his fullback.

"Believe it or not Gus, I actually do," he said.

"A lot of people look into his game and have a lot of opinion but if you saw the practice Reece does in the background to create the things he does, there's reasons why he comes up with the brilliant plays and I'm fortunate to see that quite often at training.

"That's what he's practicing and sometimes it doesn't come off but because he's so quick, over the last few weeks we probably had a couple of forward passes because blokes on the edges are trying to chase him and start a little bit ahead rather than being with Reece.

"He is electric and he's great to coach and the players appreciate him and back him up when things don't quite go so well."

During Maguire's appearance, Gould also described his side as "the thrill seekers" and pointed out the fact they don't resemble the structured tag that normally comes with the coach's teams.

Broncos score 'one of the tries of the season'

Brisbane's inconsistency was summed up when Trai Fuller scored seconds after the half-time break but then the resurgence came.

Maguire admitted he only just sat down when Fuller scored.

"I'm not quite sure where that one came from so things like that are happening," he said.

"What I'm seeing is a real growth in the group. They love their footy, Reece, our younger guys, Deine Mariner, Josiah Karapani, I've just got this young, youthful group that has some good leaders helping the group out to develop what we want to play.

"I enjoy them having a crack but they've got to have understanding of what win's a big game and they're moving towards that really quickly."

The Broncos currently sit sixth on the ladder and are two points outside of the top four.

Brisbane's next three games are against the Knights, Cowboys and Storm and Maguire confirmed Adam Reynolds could be back in a "couple of weeks" but admitted Ezra Mam and Selwyn Cobbo are long shots after hamstring injuries.
