Ex-Toronto Raptor Charles Oakley arrested, accused of cheating at casino

Former Toronto Raptors power forward Charles Oakley was arrested Sunday, accused of cheating at a Las Vegas casino.

New York Daily News

reports Oakley was cuffed at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas casino for allegedly trying to cheat while gambling before he was going to lose.

In a statement to the news outlet, the Nevada Gaming Board said the 54-year-old Oakley is “suspected of adding to or reducing his wager on a gambling game after the outcome was known.”

It’s not known what game Oakley was playing at The Cosmopolitan, but

TMZ

reported the incident was captured on surveillance video.

A source told TMZ Oakley tried to take back a $100 chip after learning he was going to lose the game.

Oakley was reportedly confronted after being caught. The casino’s security reviewed the video footage and confirmed the basketball star had allegedly cheated.

He was arrested and charged with committing or attempting to commit a fraudulent act in a gaming establishment. If convicted he could face up to six years in prison.

“This is an insignificant matter that will be quickly resolved,” a source from Oakley’s camp told TMZ.

Oakley’s NBA career spanned close to 20 years. The former NBA All-Star played three seasons with the Raptors from 1998 to 2001.
