I have a theory. I think the training and nutrition of modern professional athletes has caused the human body to get too strong, too big and too fast. Obviously evolution takes thousands of years to catch up. So maybe some day, centuries from now, the human Achilles and anterior cruciate ligament will strengthen to be able to handle the stress that the muscles and speed put on them. But as it sits right now, the human skeletal and ligament systems can’t handle the amount of stress being put on them by better training. Better nutrition. Better use of supplements. The average NFL player in 1970 was 6’0” 225 lbs. in 2024 it was 6’2” 245 lbs. and lineman specifically have gone from 270 lbs average to over 310 lbs. Multiple studies have shown that while muscles can and do let larger and stronger, bones and tendons have stayed almost identical. The bigger and faster we get, the more catastrophic injuries we will continue to see. submitted by /u/RipplesOfDivinity |
