Sharks star banned for shot that sparked brawl

Cronulla centre Jesse Ramien has been rubbed out for the Sharks' next three games after pleading guilty to a reckless high tackle on Dragons fullback Matt Dufty.

The first-half incident sparked a brawl in a spiteful derby between the bitter rivals on Sunday, which resulted in Ramien being sin binned.

The Sharks went on to win the game, 32-18.

The 23-year-old, who returned to the Sharks in 2020 after a stint with the Newcastle Knights, had no complaints as he was sent from the field for 10 minutes after collecting Dufty with a swinging arm to the back of the head on a kick return.

Dufty later returned to the field, which led to one of Australia's leading experts on sports concussion injuries slamming the NRL.

"Matt Dufty was visibly and undeniably UNCONSCIOUS following a forearm to the back of the head in the St George (Illawarra) v Cronulla game," Dr Adrian Cohen said.

The Sharks will be without Ramien for games against the Canberra Raiders this weekend, then the Parramatta Eels and North Queensland Cowboys.

Angus Crichton hit with charge for crusher tackle

The only other player to be suspended over the weekend was Roosters backrower Angus Crichton, who entered an early guilty plea for a crusher tackle on Taniela Paseka as the Chooks easily accounted for the Manly Sea Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

Crichton will miss Sunday's game against the Wests Tigers before returning for a grudge match against his former team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, in Round Three.

Five players – Nick Cotric, Chanel Harris-Tavita, Jake Friend, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, and Aiden Tolman – were handed fines for a variety of minor incidents.
