Karachi: Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez has clarified that he will happily leave cricket if someone better than him is ready to replace him at the highest level.
The 40-year-old Hafeez thinks that if a senior is justifying his selection, he should be given complete freedom to continue playing for Pakistan.
“I feel as a senior, you have to justify your selection. You can’t play on the basis of seniority. If you are ticking [selection] criteria you should be there [in the team], he said on Cricket Baaz’s YouTube channel.
Hafeez revealed that he also made this point clear to the Chairman PCB Ehsan Mani when he met back in 2019.
“I openly said to him [Ehsan Mani] that I play for the pride of Pakistan and I am not playing for any financial help or need,” he added.
“Yes, if someone better is ready to replace me, I’ll happily leave and retire with no resentment,” he added.
