Jason Roy eases 125-run chase for England against India

AHMEDABAD: Jason Roy smashed 49 runs as England chased down 125 runs easily with eight wickets in hand against India in the first T20I here on Friday. 

Set to chase 125 runs, England were off to a potent start with an opening partnership of 72 runs between Roy and Jos Buttler. Buttler fell Yuzvendra Shahal in eighth over but Roy looked in a different mood. He struck two boundaries and a six.

Roy got out to Washington Sundar after laying down a solid foundation for England to chase. He consolidated to hit four boundaries and three sixes.

Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow scored match-winning runs and remained not out for 24 and 26 runs respectively.

Chahal and Sundar bagged a wicket each for India.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer rescued India after their top-order failed to score runs. The right-handed batsman scored the highest 67 runs off 48 balls laced with eight boundaries and a six.

Rishabh Pant scored 21 runs off 23 balls with the help of two boundaries and a six. Hardik Pandya struck a six and boundary to score 19 runs.

Jofra Archer bagged three wickets while Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, and Ben Stokes shared a wicket apiece.
