'It's a colt': Winx welcomes new foal

Champion mare Winx has added to her legacy, welcoming a new colt by Arrowfield Stud stallion Snitzel on Monday morning.

The news was confirmed in a post uploaded to the horse's official Instagram account.

Both Winx and her new foal are said to be doing well with no complications during delivery.

Since retiring in 2019, Winx's breeding career has had its challenges.

Her first foal by I Am Invincible died during birth in 2020 before she delivered a healthy filly by Pierro in 2022.

In April, the filly sold for a record $10 million to Winx's part-owner Debbie Kepitis' Woppitt Bloodstock at the at the Easter Yearling Sale.

Snitzel is a multiple Australian champion sire.

Winx won 37 of 43 starts, including 25 Group 1 wins and her unbeaten finish of 33 consecutive races.

Hugh Bowman rides Winx to victory.

She is the only horse to have won four successive Cox Plates at Mooney Valley — achieving the feat between 2015 and 2018.

Winx's ownership group is yet to decide whether it will retain the colt or offer him for sale as a yearling in 2026.

However, given the colt's unmatched pedigree and his stallion potential, the horse could challenge the top-draw price tag fetched by his older half-sister at auction.

Because of the late foaling season, it remains unclear whether Winx will be served by a stallion again this spring.
