PARIS: Australia's golden girls have done it again, winning the 4x200m freestyle final in Olympic record time, with Ariarne Titmus kicking away in the anchor leg.
Mollie O'Callaghan got the race off to the perfect start, bringing the world record into play after touching clear of Tokyo 2020 champions China after the first leg.
And the Aussies were only briefly challenged, with American superstar Katie Ledecky reeling in China on the third leg and throwing down the challenge to Australia's Brianna Throssell. However, Throssell kicked in the final 50 of her leg, touching the wall in front of Ledecky to put Titmus in the water in front.
From that point the only question was about the world record, but 'Arnie' wasn't quite able to haul it in.
"It's toying with me, it's toying with Arnie," Ian Thorpe said in commentary for Nine.
In the end, all that mattered was another gold medal.
