'Numbing' moment superstar coughed up gold medal

To mark 100 days from the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Nine.com.au asked you what your favourite Olympic memories were in a survey. The response was overwhelming! We chose 50 of them to re-live, one a day, before new memories are made in Paris. Scroll on for today's memory.

Lolo Jones described it as "shocking" and "numbing" and said she "couldn't believe it".

One moment, the American appeared to be powering to Olympic gold in the women's 100m hurdles at the Beijing 2008 Games. The next, her race was ruined.

She exploded out of the blocks and quickly established a comfortable lead — about as comfortable a lead as possible in an Olympic 100m hurdles final — but tripped on the second-last hurdle.

All of a sudden, American teammate Dawn Harper was bursting over the finish line as the winner. Australia's Sally Pearson claimed silver and Canada's Priscilla Lopes-Schliep collected bronze.

Heartbroken, Jones crossed the finish line seventh.

She returned for another shot at gold at the London 2012 Olympics, but failed in her bid for redemption, finishing fourth.
