Roosters enforcer cops hefty ban after milestone game

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been handed a four-game suspension by the NRL judiciary for a high tackle against the Dragons in round 18.

The veteran Roosters front-rower was sin binned for the shot on Max Feagai and was subsequently hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge.

Waerea-Hargreaves appealed the grading on Tuesday night at the judiciary panel but was unsuccessful, leaving the Chooks without their star enforcer for the next month.

The 35-year-old would have missed three matches with an early guilty plea, but the club opted to challenge the grading which would have resulted in a $3000 fine if successful.

Waerea-Hargreaves will now be sidelined until round 25, giving him just three games before the NRL finals series.

This latest ban will take his total career tally to 27 weeks spent on the sidelines through suspension after a seventh failed bid at the judiciary.

His absence will likely see rising star Terrell May lock down a starting front-row spot. 

The suspension sours what was a remarkable feat achieved by Waerea-Hargreaves last weekend, becoming the all-time most capped Roosters player with 307 games.

The hard-nosed Kiwi forward has surpassed the likes of Mitchell Aubusson, Anthony Minichiello and Luke Ricketson, cementing himself as one of the greatest players to ever done the famous red, white and blue jersey.
