'I've got visions': Ponga's scary Walsh prediction

Recalled Maroons star Kalyn Ponga has revealed the plan for how him and Reece Walsh will work together in Origin III, providing a scary hypothetical for the Blues.

Ponga has been named on the bench for Queensland having not played Origin since 2022. The superstar Knights fullback was immense in that series, scoring a try in the decider at Suncorp Stadium.

However, the emergence of Walsh and injuries to Ponga mean he hasn't featured since.

How Ponga comes into the game next Wednesday remains to be seen, with Queensland selecting Harry Grant on the bench in his usual No.14 role.

The 26-year-old is likely to form a combination with Walsh when he does enter the field, and Ponga revealed he's been having "visions" of how it will work together.

"I've been thinking about that for a little while," he told media on Monday.

"I've got visions of him going down the sideline and passing it back in to me.

"It's exciting, I can't wait to get out there and train and build combinations with everyone.

"Hopefully we can get everything right, but there's a lot of work to be done between now and then."

Ponga added he's still working with Walsh and coach Billy Slater to decide what sort of role he'll play off the bench.

"Everyone loves watching him (Walsh). His speed, his elusiveness and how exciting he is," Ponga said.

"My job when I come on, we still haven't really worked that out, but it's just to give him the footy and let him open up."
