Wimbledon gift lifts Demon to new career-high

Alex de Minaur is through to his second Wimbledon fourth round without so much as hitting a ball in the third.

He was granted a walkover after his opponent, French qualifier and former world No.10, Lucas Pouille was forced to pull out of their third-round clash with an abdominal injury.

It matches his career-best Wimbledon showing from 2022, and will see him rise to at least world No.6 when the rankings are recalculated after the tournament.

With 74 career grand slam singles matches to his name, this is the first time de Minaur has received a walkover.

Pouille was himself gifted passage into the third round after Thanasi Kokkinakis was forced to retire from their second round match in the third set.

De Minaur will next face either Arthur Fils or Roman Safiullin, who are scheduled to play on Saturday night.

The walkover gives Wimbledon organisers some respite, after several days of rain has thrown the schedule into chaos.

De Minaur's fourth round clash will likely be on Monday night (AEST).

Elsewhere, Alexei Popyrin will take on Novak Djokovic on centre court early Sunday morning.
